Similar to prior years, the start of the race begins close to the main parking lot. From there, you will have 1.6km of flat double track trail as you start approaching the single track trail near the ponds. The next 1.4 km will be a moderately technical trail which will guide you towards the trail that hugs along the North Saskatchewan River. (Note: this section may be muddy and difficult to pass.)

The 3km mark signals the first major climb of the course that will lead you to the most challenging trail section of the day. This single track consists of very little flat terrain and will be very difficult to pass for the next kilometer, so please be courteous if you are passing or being passed. You will encounter a few hills that test your limits and one of them has a rope to help you climb up!

Once you’ve survived the trail along the river, you will have approximately 300 meters of non-technical trail before you begin a gentle decent on a twisty technical trail. Next, you will turn left and continue on a narrow path that is constantly twisting with gentle inclines. The final kilometer will prove to be adventurous and fast as you continue downhill towards the finish line area.

What to Look Out For

A reminder that Terwillegar Park is open to the public and you must keep an eye out for mountain bikers, walkers, and off leash dogs. Please use extra caution on the course as many sections do have sharp downhills and could be slick from mud and giant puddles. Lastly, please be aware that the east side of the park is closed off due to construction of the footbridge.[:fr]A mix of double and single track. Expect an off-camber root-covered trails and big descents before hitting open double track for the final 600m of the course. Note if the course is wet except the trail to be very slick with plenty of puddles! Please use extra caution on the down-hills and technical sections. A reminder to runners that the park is open to the public during the race and to expect people with dogs to be present.

Terwillegar is technical course that will demand plenty of agility and alertness to overcome a variety of
obstacles. The name of the game at Terwillegar is LIMITED PASSING. The course is 65% single track so

The first three kilometers of the course are flat on a mix of single and double track. The first section of single track begins at 1km and continues until 2.5km. This section is moderately technical with limited passing opportunities. The 3km mark signals the first major climb of the course that continues until 4.0km. Runners will climb for 300m onto a bench where they will find plenty of single track with some double track. A sustained downhill (300m) off the bench begins at 5.0km and eventually narrows into a tight single track before reaching the aid station at 5.5km.

The next section is broad double track anchored with a 700m sustained climb. 6.7km marks the beginning
of the most technical section of single track on the course. Expect an off-camber root-covered trails and
big descents before hitting open double track for the final 600m of the course.
