Race Facts

Scotiabank Children's Challenge: 5 Peaks continues to promote family participation. Children up to 10 years of age are eligible for entry into the Scotiabank Children's Challenge. Each participant receives a kit, containing a number bib, pins, and some goodies from 5 Peaks. All participants receive a finisher's ribbon at the finish line. This years entry fee is $5. Registration is available online, and on race day morning. Don't miss this race day favorite!

Date: Saturday, September 25, 2010
Location: We will be racing on the private single track trails found at the Corporate Synergy “Ark”. The private and groomed single-track trails twist and turn, rise and fall over 340 acres of mixed growth forest. These trails are the home of the Mad Trapper Snowshoe Series and are sure to challenge runners just as they have snowshoers for the past 7 years!

Directions: Directions from Ottawa

(We are about 18km north of Wakefield on the way to Mont St. Marie.)

-Take the MacDonald-Cartier bridge (King Edward & Sussex) into Quebec (this is HWY 5)

- Keep going past Chelsea and the Camp Fortune exit and follow the signs to Maniwaki

- HWY 5 will end with a right turn. Take this to the stop light on HWY 105, and turn left here

- Follow this past the IGA and it will turn into the double lane HWY 5 and take you up the hill past Wakefield.

- Turn right when HWY 5 ends and travel to the stop light.

- At the stop light turn left onto the 105 again, toward Alcove and Maniwaki

- 11km down the 105 you will come to the green Farrelton bridge and Newcommon Road, turn right here.

- Once across the bridge turn left and travel up the hill where the paved road turns into gravel

- Travel 1km and follow the bend around to the right and then turn left on Kelly road. There should be a sign for The Ark at this corner.

- Approximately 4km later you will come to a stop sign and Farrellton Road. Turn right here.

- We are the second house on the right, 2km from the corner. You'll see why we call it "the Ark" when you get there.

Directions from Toronto

- Take HWY 401 east through Belleville, Kingston, etc - following the signs to Ottawa

- Take HWY 416 all the way to the end.

- Turn east (right) towards Ottawa on the 417.

- Travel through the bulk of Ottawa and take the Nicholas Street Exit. Follow the signs through the city to HWY 5.

- Now go up and follow the directions from Ottawa.

8:00 AM -Registration / Packet Pickup for the Children’s Challenge, Sport and Enduro
9:30 AM -Start of the Children’s Challenge 1K and any participants planning to walk the Sport or Enduro course.
9:45 AM -Sport & Enduro Pre-Race Briefing
10:00 AM -Start of both the Sport & Enduro race
10:15 AM -Post race food & beverage available in race compound
11:45 AM -Awards Ceremony

Elevation Gain: Sport Course: 700 feet total elevation gain
Enduro Course: TBD
First Aid & Water Stations: 2 Water/Aid Stations(1 at start / finish area, and 1mid way through course). First Aid attendants at the Start/Finish area, at aid station and throughout course with radio communication. Course sweep will travel behind last racer.
Washrooms: Start/Finish area.
Parking: Plenty of parking along Farrelton Road
Important Notes: This is a trail race with natural hazards on the course, so please be alert while racing. For the safety of yourself and others, please no headphones, strollers, dogs or nordic walking poles.


Spectators: Spectators are welcome: best viewing from Start/Finish area
Awards/Prizes: Awards ceremony will be held following completion of all competitors. (Approximately 11:00am). Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in each age category in all distances, as well as top three male and female finishers overall.
All awards must be picked up at the race and will not be mailed.
